Maggi posted about the British election that is coming our way. I let go a bit of a rant I'm afraid but here is a poem I wrote a while ago that sums up my view on the current state of British politics:
Spoilt ballot?
Ballots:
“If it ‘ain’t broke’ don’t try now to fix it”
But if it’s broken too bad
is it still worth the effort?
Voters:
“If voices aren’t heard then give them loud hailers.”
But if nobody’s listening
is it still worth the effort?
And the politicians:
why take their lies about the agenda
and why play their games in their own arena?
and why should we all to their rules surrender?
For in sharing and helping we’ll make greater impact
and closer to home that impact will last,
and their rules are not binding, their say-so no fact.
If we campaigned and then voted:
”None of the above”.
If we all – every one,
every single last one
just ignored them:
…
- would their vanity stand it?
- could they claim they had planned it?
- would the pundits demand it:
that they should stop,
pay attention
and listen
to that vast silent shouting
of a people who might,
and stop spoiling ballots?
That's yummy!
I think there are some Britishisms in there that are hard for me to follow, but that's okay. It's fun to be exposed to different rhymes. I guess rap has conditioned me to that openness. That's a good thing.
Really fun.
